This full-time Nursing Studies Course is designed to prepare students for academic programmes in the nursing sector and/or employment in the health sector as a care assistant. The Nursing Studies course is structured to provide a foundation in the theory and practice of Health Science for graduates who intend to enter the nursing, paramedical or community care service.
Graduates who have successfully completed the Nursing Studies Course are eligible for consideration for academic progression routes in Nursing and related Health Studies in Universities and Institutes of Technology in Ireland. There is a registration fee of €50 for all students plus a course fee of €150 to include cardiac first responder training, manual and patient handling training, skills workshops and online infection control course. In addition non medical card holders are required to pay a €200 DES contribution (this can be paid in 4 installments)
This is a one year course running from September to May timetabled over 3 days – Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
All students study anatomy and physiology, human growth and development, nursing theory and practice,
care provision and practice, communications, work experience, biology, nutrition, care of the older
person and care skills. There is also the option to take psychology as an extra subject.
