In the past Distance Learning involved correspondence courses whereby the student corresponded with the school via post. Today it typically involves online learning. Online courses can be completed via an online device such as a PC or tablet. The course may also be a combination of distance learning and traditional classroom instruction (this is known as blended learning). Massive open online courses (MOOCs), offering large-scale interactive participation and open access through the internet or other network technologies. These are more recent developments in distance learning.
