There are numerous Community and Comprehensive Schools in Ireland which run a wide range of adult education evening and night classes at this time of year. Many subjects are available, from art to zumba. A variety of QQI (formerly FETAC) courses are also offered for adults who want to gain formal qualifications and improve their employability. There are plenty of options too for anyone who would like to start a new hobby or get fit with dance, yoga or other activity-based classes.

Most classes take place in the evenings. However, some schools also provide daytime and weekend courses.

Schools running QQI certified adult education courses include Carrigaline Community School and Kinsale Community School (Cork); Cabinteely Community School and Donahies Community School (Dublin); Scoil Mhuire Clane and Colaiste Chiaran Leixlip (Kildare); O’Fiaich Institute Dundalk (Louth); Boyne Community School (Meath); and Gorey Community School (Wexford). These courses range from full Level 5 and Level 6 qualifications in Health Care Support, Animal Care, Special Needs Assisting and Early Childhood Care to modules such as Train the Trainer, Mental Health Awareness and Safety and Health at Work.

You can complete the full ECDL qualification at Cabinteely CS, Donahies CS, Gorey CS, Palmerstown CS and Scoil Mhuire Clane. ECDL Essentials is also available at Ashbourne CS, Boyne CS, Newpark CS and St Colmcille’s CS. In addition, several NUI Maynooth certified courses are on offer. These include Local History (Old Bawn Community School), Addiction Studies (Donahies Community School), Community Development and Leadership (Donahies) and Psychology (Old Bawn and Donahies).

O’Fiaich Institute and Scoil Mhuire in Clane run a range of ITEC Beauty courses. Irish Academy of Public Relations qualifications are offered at Old Bawn Community School, O’Fiaich Institute, Malahide Community School and Hartstown Community School. CompTIA certification and Microsoft Office Specialist training are also available at Scoil Mhuire in Clane.

Irish Sign Language Association certificate courses are run at Old Bawn Community School. St Tiernan’s Community School provides the IPASS Certificate in Payroll Technician. You can also take the Primary Course in Food Safety at Boyne Community School in Trim.

Many schools offer certified First Aid courses as well.

Most Community and Comprehensive Schools run Art classes, Computer courses and Cookery courses. A wide range of other hobbies and leisure courses are also popular. These include Pilates, Yoga, Pottery, Patchwork, Digital Photography, Music, Mindfulness, Genealogy and various Language classes.

Evening Classes at Malahide Community School
Walk-in enrolment is available for all classes.
Students can meet course tutors during these sessions. Complimentary tea and coffee are provided at the enrolment and open evening.
These enrolment evenings take place in September & January each year.
