Course Overview
The Early Learning and Care QQI Level 6 Certificate is a comprehensive programme designed for professionals working in Early Childhood Education and Care settings. The programme equips learners with the advanced knowledge, skills, and competence needed to work autonomously under supervision while promoting and supporting the holistic needs of children aged 0–6 years.
This programme also prepares learners for leadership roles within Early Learning and Care (ELC) settings, helping them develop child-centred approaches, reflective practice, and professional confidence within the sector.
Entry Requirements
- Successful completion of a QQI Level 5 ECCE/ELC programme or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent education/experience.
- If English is not your first language, IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) is required.
- Evidence of English proficiency may be requested before enrolment.
Course Structure
Week 1: Access to Moodle platform, recorded lecture, and tutor support via email.
Week 2: Live webinar covering module overview, programme structure, and assessment guidance.
Week 3: Tutor support via email or TEAMS, including discussion activities and learner engagement.
Week 4: Recorded lecture and guided reading from course materials.
Week 5: Live webinar focusing on key concepts, discussions, and applied learning.
Week 6: Study week with tutor support, Q&A sessions, and assignment guidance.
All course materials, webinar recordings, and resources are accessible through Moodle.
Assessments / Exams
Continuous assessment through assignments and coursework with scheduled submission deadlines.
There are no written theory exams, making the programme practical and accessible for working professionals.
Work Placement
Work placement is a mandatory part of the programme. Learners must complete 150 hours across two Early Learning and Care settings:
- Minimum 50 hours with children aged 0–2.8 years
- Minimum 50 hours with children aged 2.8–6 years
- Remaining 50 hours may be divided across both age groups, with at least 30 hours completed in the second setting
Garda Vetting
Garda Vetting is mandatory before commencing placement.
Learners who have lived outside Ireland for more than 6 months must provide Police Clearance Certification for relevant countries.
