Our Special Purpose Award in Special Education is designed to provide learners with a strong foundation in special education, inclusive practice, and learner support. This comprehensive Level 7 programme equips students with the practical knowledge, applied strategies, and professional insight required to support individuals with diverse learning needs in educational settings.
Learners will develop expertise across core areas including inclusive education, special educational needs support, learning interventions, and classroom practice, while also building communication, professional, and learner support skills.
This programme also provides pathways for Special Needs Assistants and education professionals seeking to progress to a Level 7 qualification and advance their careers within the education and social care sectors.

This programme is delivered across structured weekly learning combining live teaching, recorded lectures, and tutor support.
Week 1: Live webinar (2 hours) – programme overview, module introduction, and assessment guidance.
Week 2: Recorded lecture review, one hour tutor support, and assigned readings.
Week 3: Recorded lecture review, one hour tutor support, and discussion/forum engagement where applicable.
Week 4: Live webinar (2 hours).
Week 5: Live or on-site session (2 hours) where applicable, depending on student numbers.
Week 6: Recorded lecture review, one hour tutor support, and assigned readings.
Week 7: Live webinar (2 hours).
Week 8: Recorded lecture review, one hour tutor support, and discussion/forum engagement where applicable.
Week 9: Recorded lecture review, one hour tutor support, and additional readings.
This structure continues throughout the 27-week programme.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should meet one of the following:
• Hold a Level 6 qualification in Special Needs Assisting on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)
• Be currently working in education or social care with relevant experience
• Demonstrate equivalent experience through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
All RPL applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
