Course Description:
This course is an introduction to machine sewing. Participants will learn how to use a sewing machine and other equipment that is used when sewing any projects. Fabrics and other materials used in variousareas of sewing.
A choice of hands on project will help implemet the knowdlege learnt in the course and Timi Nicholson of Scattered Bobbins will be there help along the journey.
What to expect
Week 1
Introduction. This week we will look at a general outline of the course, discuss material and equipment needed. Some equipment can be provided by the tutor. The student level of skill will be observed as to tailor the course to individuals levels.
Health and Safety of sewing.
Week 2-5
Get to know your sewing machine:
-Parts and functions of the sewing machine
-Sewing machine feet and their uses
-Different stitches and their uses
Week 5-7
Materials we work with.
-Introduction to different farics and what they are used for. -Threads and needle
Week 8-10
-Class project to implement skills learnt. This is to be discussed in the beginning, after learning what students’ interests are.
Please Note
Sewing Machine:
If you have your own machine please bring it along, if not a shared machine will be provided. It is better to have your own machine so you can practice and use at home.
If you are not sure which sewing machine to buy, the tutor will give you advise in the first class of which machine to buy and where to buy it.

Monday evenings 7.00 – 9.00pm

Tuesday evening 7.30 – 9.30pm

Cost: €110 (Note: Price includes fabric for learning skills and smaller items at the start of the course. However students will have to purchase fabric for larger individual items you choose to make during the course. Tutor will advise on fabric needed and where to purchase it)

Duration: 10 weeks – Maximum of 10 students in class

Jen Dwyer is a fashion designer and stylist. She has worked for many years between the fields of film, theatre, and live performance, as a wardrobe stylist and costume designer. In 2014 she saw the need for fully inclusive and consciously produced bridal/occasion wear, and started her own label, Eyre Couture. She is also extremely passionate about teaching and has over 10 years experience as an art teacher and a sewing tutor.
