The two day Executive Officer programme is designed for staff at Executive Officer level. This role is partly operational and part management, and the course aims to enable the EO to support senior staff achieve Departmental goals. The aim of the programme is to provide an opportunity for staff of government departments, offices and state agencies, to develop the competencies required to be effective in the EO role and to acquire a firm understanding of what is expected from civil servants and how this differs from working in other sectors.
This two day programme will clarify the role and responsibilities for Executive Officers within a civil service context, identify the competencies required for the role, provide opportunity to further develop these competencies and explore the career and personal development pathways available within the civil service.
The programme will cover the key competency areas of Staff Management Responsibilities including:
- Communicating Effectively
- Staff Development
- Performance Feedback
- Team Working
- Personal Effectiveness
- Work Organisational Skills
The programme provides a safe learning environment in which participants can develop these competencies further and in so doing, make a significant impact within their role.

Fee: The cost of this course is €810 for Corporate Members of the Institute, €900 for others. Fee includes course material, lunch and refreshments.
The programme can be tailored to the specific requirements of a Government Department or Agency and delivered on an in-house basis at a negotiated rate. The programme can also be delivered where two or three Departments come together to provide a minimum number of participants.
