Course Structure

This programme consists of 8 mandatory QQI modules designed to build both theoretical knowledge and practical care skills. Learners will complete continuous assessment throughout the programme, along with work experience in a suitable care setting.

Assessment

• Continuous Assessment
• Work Experience: 160 hours in a healthcare or community care setting

Learners may also be required to complete additional training such as Manual Handling and Basic First Aid prior to placement (not provided as part of the programme).

Entry Requirements

Applicants should meet one of the following:

• Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification/experience
• Relevant work or life experience in a care-related field

International applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or an equivalent recognised qualification.

Evidence of English language ability may be required during application.

Course Objectives

Work Placement & Garda Vetting

Work placement is a mandatory component of this programme.

• 160 hours required in a suitable healthcare or community care setting
• Garda Vetting required under National Vetting Bureau legislation
• Police clearance required for learners who have lived outside Ireland for 6+ months
• Placement must be completed in an approved care environment
