The Diploma of Applied Science in Food and Business Management is designed to enable participants to develop a sound understanding of the food production and consumption process with particular emphasis on the pivotal role of the consumer. The food industry requires graduates that are capable of undertaking analytical procedures, technical and critical skills that are essential in product development and review. Consequently, this course aims to achieve a balance between academic study and practical experience.
The Diploma of Applied Science in Food and Business Management is a 2 year, level 7 diploma. In year 1 students will study a variety of modules including Management Principles, Introduction to Marketing, Introduction to Financial Accounting, Economics, Management Information Systems, Chemistry, Physics, Nutrition, Food Preparation and Culinary Skills, Micro Biology and Human Biology.
In year 2, students will build on the knowledge of year 1 and will undertake study in the areas of International Marketing, Consumer Behaviour, Management and Cost Accounting, Health and Safety, Food Safety Management Systems, Applied Food Design, Biochemistry, Nutrition and Sensory Sciences, Microbiology and Food Production
This programme will enhance students’ knowledge and skills within these areas of food technology, food innovation and entrepreneurship, food safety management and auditing. The course is ideal for individuals who are considering setting up their own food business, artisan food producers or individuals seeking employment within the food industry.
