Course Description

Sustainable Travel & Tourism (Tourism with Business)

Stillorgan College of Further Education has rebranded and is now known as Dublin College Stillorgan.

AIM:
Travel and Tourism is an exciting, dynamic industry that offers a broad range of job opportunities in airlines, tour operators, travel agencies, hotels and the tourism sector.

A core feature of this course is its strong emphasis on green skills and sustainable travel & tourism practices. Students learn how modern tourism businesses are adapting to climate goals, responsible travel standards, and environmental best practice.

Through applied learning, industry-focused modules, and sustainability-driven projects, learners develop the ability to support tourism operations that protect destinations, reduce environmental impact, and contribute to long-term community wellbeing.

ERASMUS+
Eligible students may also be selected for work experience under the Erasmus+ programme abroad.

Entry Requirements
Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English. Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants.
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this programme learners will have the skills, knowledge and competencies to independently and effectively carry out a range of information, administrative and service functions in tourism-related enterprises or to progress to further or higher education and training.

A full QQI Level 5 award is granted on passing the relevant QQI modules.
Students will be assessed throughout the year through projects, assignments and exams with select modules.

Site visits are organised to give students first-hand insight into careers across the sustainable tourism sector. These visits may include environmentally responsible businesses, eco-focused hospitality operations, green tourism providers, heritage sites and organisations leading in responsible travel practices.

Students observe how sustainability is integrated into real-world tourism and business settings, helping them understand emerging career pathways in a rapidly evolving, environmentally conscious industry.
