Course description

SPORT, RECREATION AND EXERCISE (5M5146)

This full time one year course will facilitate the student to explore the Sport Recreation and Exercise Industry.  Students will re-skill/up-skill in areas such as coaching, fitness instruction, swimming and gain knowledge in sport related subject areas that provide them with knowledge base for future educational programmes or employment.

Practical classes including swimming and life guarding, Gaelic football coaching, soccer coaching, circuit training and exercise to music instruction as well as resistance training and fitness assessment instruction. Attendance and participation in practical classes is essential.

Maximum number of 25 students accepted on this course. Final selection subject to interview and Garda Vetting.

COURSE CONTENT

Sport and Recreation, Exercise and Fitness, Leisure Facility Administration, Soccer Coaching, Gaelic Football Coaching, Lifeguarding/Swimming and Water Safety, Communications, Work Experience, Occupational First Aid, Nutrition and Sports Anatomy and Physiology

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates should be of Leaving Cert standard of equivalent with a strong interest in working within the Sports and Leisure Industry.
