DT299 The 4 year programme is designed around a core chemistry syllabus in organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry and incorporates analytical chemistry. The medicinal chemistry component is introduced at the fi rst stage of the programme and built on at each subsequent stage. At the second stage, chemical and pharmaceutical processes and technology are explored and are then developed at subsequent stages. The programme has a holistic approach to its subject matter and supporting modules in pharmacology and the regulatory requirements of the industry in which medicines are manufactured prepare students for the employment market. A key feature in Year 3 of the programme is the Work Placement, which begins in Semester 2. Access to a suite of modern instruments and equipment ensures that a high standard of laboratory skills is achieved. Important transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving and critical analysis are also developed during the degree programme.
