Course Description

Classical and Computer Animation at Ballyfermot College is an intensive, two-year programme designed to turn budding artists into industry-ready animators. This Level 6 course empowers you to express yourself through both classical hand-drawn and computer-generated animation, taking individual and group projects from conception to completion. With access to modern studios equipped with industry-standard Cintiq tablets, students acquire the requisite skills to work in feature films, TV, or computer game animation, or to progress seamlessly into degree-level studies in Ireland and abroad.

Certification

Graduates of this programme are awarded by Pearson BTEC. Upon successful completion of Year 1, students receive a Higher National Certificate in Classical and Computer Animation. After Year 2, graduates achieve a Higher National Diploma in Classical and Computer Animation, which is recognised by QQI as being comparable to a Higher Certificate at NFQ Level 6.

In Year 1, all students complete an animation industry-led curriculum. In Year 2, students can specialize by opting for either a 2D or 3D animation stream (subject to demand and resources). (Note: As a Pearson BTEC qualification, QQI component codes do not apply).

It is ideal for creative individuals eager to develop a comprehensive understanding of the principles and techniques employed by professional animators before entering the commercial industry or advancing to higher education.
