The Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy
The Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (ICHP) specialises in clinical hypnotherapy and hypno-psychotherapy. Founded in 1979 and led by Principal Dr. Joseph Keaney, the institute has provided professional education in the field for over four decades. It conducts part-time training courses out of designated hubs, including the Marino Institute of Education in Dublin and facilities in Cork City.
The curriculum at the ICHP focuses on an eclectic model of therapy, teaching students to integrate a variety of hypnotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic techniques. The educational framework is structured to train practitioners to adapt therapeutic methods to the specific presenting symptoms of individual clients, drawing from diverse psychological approaches. Training is delivered sequentially, starting with basic certification and advancing to comprehensive clinical practice.
The institute’s academic pathway consists of progressive tiers – Foundation, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, and an Associate Diploma – alongside a four-year Masters level program. To qualify as a clinical hypno-psychotherapist through the advanced tracks, students must fulfill requirements that include supervised clinical hours and independent coursework.
