Course Description
This QQI Level 5 Sustainable Development course supports young people and educators in understanding key environmental challenges and exploring practical ways to create positive change in their communities.
Who is the course for?
This course is aimed at young people aged 16–25 interested in sustainability, including Senior Cycle students, school leavers, and early‑career professionals. Teachers and tutors of any age are also welcome.

Entry requirements
Applicants must:
- Have knowledge and skills consistent with level 4 of NFQ
- Have competent spoken and written English
- Provide a PPS number
- Submit a short statement of interest
What will I learn?
Learners will explore:
- The principles and pillars of sustainable development
- Renewable vs non‑renewable resources and environmental challenges
- Globalisation, trade, consumerism, and their social/environmental impacts
- Fair Trade, cultural diversity, and community sustainability
- Agriculture, biodiversity, and sustainable farming practices
- How to plan workshops, carry out environmental investigations, and design community‑focused sustainability projects
What will I do?
You’ll take part in group discussions, peer learning, lecture‑style sessions, and practical sustainability tasks.
How is the course delivered?
Teaching takes place in person at ECO‑UNESCO, 9 Burgh Quay, Dublin. Classes are expected to run on weekday evenings, with possible weekend sessions, totalling around 50 hours over 10–12 weeks. Independent study is also required.
