Pre-University Teaching Course – Level 5

The Pre-University Foundation in Teaching is a one-year full-time course at City of Dublin FET College, Ballyfermot. It is designed for learners interested in progressing towards careers in education, training or related social and community roles. The programme provides an introduction to educational concepts, psychology and social studies, while also developing core academic and practical skills needed for further study.

This course leads to a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Education and Training (5M3635). It is suitable for school leavers, adults returning to education and those already working in training environments who wish to formalise their teaching skills.

Entry and Progression

Applicants should meet the standard entry requirements for Level 5 programmes. The course is well suited to learners who wish to build confidence and academic skills before progressing to higher education.

Graduates who achieve a Merit profile may apply for Level 6 courses within City of Dublin FET College and other Colleges of Further Education. Students can also progress through the CAO and Higher Education Links Scheme to higher certificate and degree programmes in Institutes of Technology, Technological Universities and Universities, particularly in arts, humanities and social science areas.
