The Kinsale College of Further Education Art course offers students an excellent opportunity to assemble a portfolio of work, which they may use to gain access to Diploma/Degree courses.

The painting course covers oil painting, watercolour, acrylic and alternative materials. Subject matter includes painting, still life and free expression. DrawingThe drawing course introduces students to charcoal, pencil, pastel, inks and a range of alternative materials in a variety of subjects: figure drawing, still life, self potraiture and ultilising fun modern techniques training the eye to see.

Combined Materials Combined materials offers students the chance to learn many textile techniques such as felting, batik, papermaking and weaving. On this course students will learn how to manipulate and mix varied materials to create a totally orginal art piece.Printed TextilesPrinted textiles involves silkscreen painting, block printing and painting on fabric.

On this course the student learns how to use dyes with an emphasis on design, texture and colour.SculptureThe Sculpture course offers the student the opportunity to explore a wide variety of sculpture techniques, which includes, modelling clay, casting, plaster carving, wire, paper, ciment fondu, as well as some unusual materials. During the course the students will be encoureged to develop their ideas to a portifolio level, through material manipulation and sketch books, they will also be introduced to contemporary practice through exhibitions, videos and talks.

Photography Throughout the creative industries there is a need for skilled, creative, mature image producers, fully conversant with analogue and digital technologies.This course develops creative ability and the opportunity to learn and develop photographic skills. The course teaches students how the camera works through to more complex darkroom techniques. The student will also study digital photography and the history and social importance of photography.

Art Appreciation The student is introduced to Art History on this programme, looking at artists through the ages as well as examining the materials  they used.

FURTHER STUDIES:On completion of this course students will have a large portifolio of work suitable for applying for places in any of the 3rd level art institutions in Ireland, the U.K. and Europe.Former students attend and have graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Galway School of Art, IADT Dun Laoghaire, and the Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork.
