Modules

This programme is divided into two core areas: 3D Modelling and Animation, with additional game design and portfolio development elements.

3D Modelling

• Hard surface modelling (vehicles, buildings, environments, props)
• Organic modelling (characters, creatures, flora and fauna)
• Sculpting techniques for organic asset creation
• Texture painting for 3D assets
• UV unwrapping and texture mapping

Animation

• Keyframe animation principles
• Timing, movement, and animation fundamentals
• Lighting for animation and scene composition
• Camera movement and scene presentation
• Showreel creation and portfolio development

Game Design Elements

• Colour theory in games
• Character creation for game environments
• Animation for games
• Visual storytelling and asset design

Software Used

• Blender (free software) for modelling, animation, and rendering

Entry Requirements

Learners will require a laptop or PC capable of running Blender software. Blender is available as a free download and will be used throughout the course.

This course is suitable for beginners and individuals interested in developing foundational skills in 3D modelling and animation.

Assessment

This programme includes two core project-based submissions:

• Submission 1: 3D prop creation based on an established concept or IP, including a written evaluation report
• Submission 2: Animated character showreel demonstrating movement, lighting, and visual effects

Assessment is based on practical application, creativity, and demonstration of technical skills.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this programme, learners will be able to:

• Create 3D models using both hard surface and organic modelling techniques
• Apply sculpting, UV mapping, and texture painting workflows
• Produce basic character and environmental animations using keyframes
• Use lighting and camera techniques to enhance visual output
• Develop a foundational 3D portfolio suitable for further study or entry-level opportunities
• Demonstrate understanding of game asset creation workflows
