Course Details

Irish Level 5 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy - (UK Level 3) This is the qualification you need to start your career as a Sports Injury Therapist. You must complete this course in order to be able to attend the UK Level 4 (Irish Level 6) qualification and you need the UK Level 4 to work on pathological (injured) tissue.

Running on:
Monday evenings 6-9pm, commencing 27th February 2017 (Anatomy and Physiology begins Tuesday 21st February, 6.00-9.00pm) for 5 months.

Level 3 Sports Massage with Anatomy and Physiology all inclusive price €1850 - all student therapists need to complete the Sports Anatomy and Phyisiology module.


The Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy provides you with the knowledge and skills to work in an unsupervised capacity as a sports massage practitioner with uninjured clients. It develops your knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology specific to sports therapy. It introduces you to sports specific terminology, nutrition, the theory of muscle injury and repair, effects of exercise, injury prevention, treatment planning and allows you to work on non-pathological tissue (non-injured tissue).

This excellent price is for everything you need to become a Sports Massage Practitioner working with non-pathological tissue - includes the following: training, exam fee, course book, course notes and portfolio.

This is the entry level qualification, meaning you do not need to hold any previous qualifications and it gives you a strong start on your career as a sports injury therapist.

In this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the theory underpinning the practice of sports massage therapy, including functional anatomy and physiology, nutrition, classification of sports injuries and the stages of healing.

In addition you will develop the understanding, skills and techniques to plan, prepare for and apply a range of sports massage methods to uninjured clients. You will also enhance your skills to evaluate massage strategies and methods to inform on future practice

You must gain experience in a sports clinic or with a sports team and document evidence of treatments throughout - we are happy to help you with any aspect of orgainising your treatment evidence.

1. The structural organisation of the human body
2. The structure and functions of the skin
3. The structure and functions of the muscular system, skeletal system and the joints
4. The structure and functions of the nervous and endocrine systems
5. The structure and functions of the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems
6.  Understand the structure and functions of the respiratory system
7.  Know the structure and functions of the digestive and urinary systems
8.  Understand the effects of sports massage on the body systems

2) Principles of Health and Fitness:
1. Understand the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle
2. Understand the effects of exercise on the body
3. Know the components of fitness
4. Know the principles of training5. Understand the importance of healthy eating

3) Understand the Principles of Soft Tissue Dysfunction:

1. Understand soft tissue dysfunction and the process of repair of soft tissue.

• Connective Tissue Massage (CTM)
• Soft Tissue Release (STR)
• Muscle Energy Technique (MET)
• Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)
• Myofascial Massage
• Pre-event and Post-event massage

• Injury Preventative massage
• Muscle conditioning massage
• Corrective massage
• Sports Pathologies to include: degree of swelling; temperature; muscle tone and bulk; adhesions; inflammatory response; effects and benefits of stretching
• Be able to palpate structures of the musculoskeletal system
• Be able to analyse posture and range of movement

5. Professional Practice in Sports Massage:
1. Understand the legislation required in sports massage
2. Understand scope of practice in sports massage and the standards relevant to the sports massage profession
3. The principles of professional practice in sports massage and how to produce, maintain and store client records
