Nursing Studies Level 5 (Major Award)
This Nursing Studies Level 5 Major Award is structured to provide a foundation in the theory and practice of Health Science for Graduates who intend to enter the Nursing Profession - General Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Intellectual Disability Nursing and Childrens Nursing. It will provide Learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding for the role and the responsibilities of the Professional Nurse. The course will prepare learners who intend to pursue a degree in Nurse Training in both Ireland and England.
This Nursing Studies Level 5 Major Award will enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill, and competence to work under supervision in a variety of hospital and other healthcare settings and/or to progress to further and or higher education and training.

Graduates of the Nursing Studies Level 5 Major Award will have many professional opportunities available to them. Professional routes include working in General Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Home Help Support Staff.
A combination of module appropriate assessment procedures will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes of the Nursing Studies course. These methods will include a combination of final written examinations and continuous assessment processes such as assignments, collections of work, learner records, projects and skills demonstrations.
On successful completion of the 8 Modules learners will be awarded the following:

A Credit Value of 120 Applies to this course
For any one of the 8 Modules - Learners will receive a Minor award from QQI for each module that they successfully complete.
Certificate in Manual Handling
The modules are complemented and consolidated through practical work experience. Work experience is a mandatory module for this award; therefore, learners should be aware that they will be required to carry out 100 hours work experience outside of scheduled class time in order to satisfy the requirements of the QQI work experience module
