Media Law and Ethics

The course leads to an international ICM Diploma in Journalism and Media which is recognised in over 120 countries worldwide.

The course satisfies the highest standards expected of journalists, covering both print and broadcast journalism. A focus on writing features and news for print and radio allows students to gain work in these areas. The increase in the number of local radio stations provides extra opportunities for graduates to research and present programmes for radio.

The Diploma in Journalism and Media explores the role of the media in modern society and focuses on the skills required to research, gather, prepare and present news and information for publication. You will develop your investigative ability which is essential if you wish to be a good reporter. You will also learn how to research feature material so that you can produce excellent writing material for publication. There will be opportunities to write features, human interest stories, reviews as well as improve your own writing style, which is essential.  Feedback on your writing will be provided by experienced journalists and sub-editors.

The principles of good editing, design and print production will be explored. The different types of law relevant to media specifically in Ireland and the UK will be examined as well as areas such as defamation. Writing for radio and television is also examined.  This Journalism and Media course is a must for anyone interested in working part-time or full-time in journalism.

After completion of this course , most graduates pursue careers in writing  and/or work as researchers or presenters on radio.
