CAO CODE: BN001 Aim The aim of this course is to produce skilled technicians to work with the design, manufacture, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of computer-based systems. They will have knowledge of electronics systems sufficient to deal with peripheral systems such as disk drives, monitors, etc. While trained mainly in hardware, they will also be trained in the software skills necessary for the operation of computer-based systems. For those who meet the qualifications at higher certificate level, this course will be an excellent foundation to continue studies to ordinary bachelor degree and honours bachelor degree levels. Minimum entry requirements The minimum entry requirements for standard entrants are a pass in five subjects (ordinary level) in the Leaving Certificate, to include Mathematics and English or Irish, or an equivalent qualification. Mature students may be admitted without meeting these formal minimum requirements. The minimum entry requirements for graduates of FETAC level 5 or 6 awards is any full award.
