The Garment Construction course will allow you to gain skills in the practical element of garment assembly through knowledge of materials, techniques and the processes involved to create commercially viable and well constructed designs. You will be encouraged to design and develop a brief from a series of sketches and fabric swatches through to a complete a garment. You will research fabric and haberdashery choices and explore how they can lend themselves to certain designs. You will learn to draft and manipulate patterns and make a range of garments to a high standard of craftsmanship. In line with garment construction you will gain experience in time management, costing and the order of production. In addition to the practical modules you will learn and develop your knowledge of design and investigate historical events influencing change in fashion over the years as well as researching leading designers of today.
