CAO CODE: TR024 Undergraduate students of European Studies take two out of six European languages (French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian and Spanish). Students also study the European past and present through several intellectual disciplines - history, political science and sociology. After a common first year, students can choose to emphasize the intellectual disciplines which interest them the most. There is a particular emphasis on the history of ideas (political, social, philosophical) in their cultural context. The history of ideas forms the compulsory core of the programme. The aim of these courses is to ensure a familiarity on the part of students with the evolution of European thought since the Age of Enlightenment. As an integral part of the programme, the third year is spent at a university abroad. The country is determined by the student's choice of major language in the course of their second year. A number of exchanges have been established for this purpose with History and Political Science departments in universities in France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia and Spain.
