Early Childhood Care and Education (Supervision)
The Aim of Dorset College in meeting the needs of the early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) sector is to provide learners with a level of competency that will enable them to work as highly skilled professionals in this field. The Early Childhood Care and Education course will equip the learner with the skills, knowledge and competence required to supervise an early childhood care and education settings and support others in their role.
Learners will be introduced to a range of perspectives on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). Understand and implement a range of policies, procedures and best practice guidelines that support the delivery of an effective early childhood care and education service.
The Early Childhood Care and Education Level 6 FETAC Major Award is awarded by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).

A combination of module appropriate assessment procedures will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes of this course. These methods will include a combination of final written examinations and continuous assessment processes such as assignments, collection of work, learner records, projects and skills demonstration.
The modules outlined above are complemented and consolidated through practical work experience. Work experience is a mandatory module for this award; therefore, students should be aware that they will be required to carry out 100 hours work experience outside of scheduled class time in order to satisfy the requirements of the QQI work experience module.
It is recommended that each student should secure a work experience placement in their locality that does not conflict with class time or their own personal/work commitments prior to commencing the course to alleviate any pressure once the course has commenced.
Learners will receive a QQI Early Childhood Care and Education Major Award Level 6 on successful completion of the entire programme (8 Modules). A total Credit Value of 120 is required for this certification.
For any one of the 8 Modules above - Learners will receive a Minor award for each module that they successfully complete.
The course is structured to provide Childcare Graduates with the opportunity to progress to specialised courses in higher education. Academic routes include related degree courses such as:
