The programme includes all of the essential salon treatments for skin, eye, make up, waxing, manicure and pedicure. The programme is comprehensive and fully develops the theoretical and practical skills needed by graduates to work as beauty therapists. Portobello Institute offers a “Student Support Clinic” prior to exams when students can book one to one tutorials, with their tutor, to support them acquire the theoretical and practical skills covered during this programme.
Our research is, that many graduates of this course, progress to open their own salon or mobile treatment service and that whilst they learn the knowledge and skills to deliver treatments, setting-up a business requires different skills and a different type of support. For many years Portobello Institute has been supporting graduates, from all sectors to open their own business. Student Support Clinic
Portobello Institute recognises that every student learns in a different way and for each and every student to excel, they need support and extra guidance at different stages throughout their learning journey. For this reason and in advance of theory and practical exams, we offer a Student Support Clinic on one Saturday per month during the two months prior to exams. Tutors are available on this Saturday, for students to book a 45 minute tutorial, for one to one practical skills, theory or exam preparation support. It is the student’s choice what is covered during this time.
Our experience in preparing part-time students for beauty therapy diploma exams is that this type of support substantially relieves the pressure and stress on students and ensures they can excel during their practical and theory exams.
At the end of this course, graduates need to be confident of their skills and able to secure a position immediately. Portobello Institute has built a strong network of employers offering part-time beauty therapist students an internship programme within their beauty and spa salons. Many of our network of employers recruit directly from this internship programme and it is an ideal opportunity for students to gain experience and their first reference in the industry.
Portobello Beauty Salon
From the outset, our tutors actively encourage students to start practicing their skills and gain confidence delivering treatments. Portobello Institute offers students the opportunity to participate in the salon operating within the Institute on a weekly basis. The salon offers beauty and spa treatments to other students, family, friends and general members of the public free of charge. The aim of the salon is to support our students to develop the skills and confidence they need before they participate on the internship programme.
