CAO CODE : SG 345 The practice of interior architecture offers a multidisciplinary approach to the design of habitable spaces. It combines a variety of fields including architecture, furniture and product design, graphics, performing arts, and art. This is a relatively new discipline, and is an expanding area of study in Ireland and the UK within which IT Sligo is one of the leaders in the field. The course is unique, drawing on expertise in architecture, design, construction, technology and teaching methodology. Interior architects work at the cutting edge of design, engaging with social, cultural, economic, technical, ecological, and aesthetic issues and their effects on everyday life. Interior architecture considers the interior environment as both influenced by, and influential upon, the architectural whole. The search for ways to achieve a sustainable future is to the forefront of the interior architect’s practice and the importance of utilising informed technology and preserving or re-purposing existing buildings has a critical focus.
