Childcare has become a crucial issue in contemporary society. Economically childcare is key growth area and is fundamental to the provision of equal opportunities in the labour force. Subsequently, demand for competent and confident early childhood professionals has never been higher in Ireland. The development of Sandiacute;olta (CECDE, 2006), the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education in Ireland, Aistear, the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework (NCCA, 2009) and the National Workforce Development Plan (OMCYA,2010) provide tangible evidence that early childhood care, health and education is an increasing priority for government, statutory bodies, healthcare professionals and educators. This programme is designed to enable the learner to undertake a variety of roles in the childcare sector. The two year Higher Certificate (level 6) in Early Childhood, Care, Health and Education will furnish the learner with an introduction to a wide range of theoretical and practical skills including the developing child, children’s behavior, curriculum studies, creativity and imagination, child protection, child health and practical methods of engaging children through play. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in a variety of work placement settings.
