DT002 Programme Description Engineering Systems Maintenance is an engineering activity which allows graduates to work in a mechanical/ manufacturing/electrical engineering maintenance environment in high-tech multi-national companies as well as traditional indigenous industries and public utilities. Maintenance engineering is a key component of an industry‚Äôs competitiveness. It ensures effi ciency, safety and reliability of production and service delivery of public utilities. Areas of study during the three year programme include Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, Computer Software Applications, Communications, Mathematics, Engineering Science and Materials, Thermal and Fluid Plant, Mechatronics, Metrology and Quality, Environmental Plant Services , Business Management, Final year Project. The programme is an excellent combination of academic class-work and practical ‚Äúhands-on‚Äù work in DIT laboratories and workshops. Career Opportunities There are opportunities for graduates to take up employment in many areas of industrial maintenance. Career prospects are not limited to any specifi c industry or service. It could be in the manufacturing or processing (food, pharmaceutical, chemical) industry, building services maintenance, hospitals and other public utilities, specialist equipment suppliers, state and semi-state agencies.
