Bachelor of Science (Honours) in General Nursing
Over the course of your four-year training, you will develop the professional knowledge, necessary skills and attitude needed to meet the nursing needs of patients who have chronic and acute illnesses. General nurses are educated and trained to nurse children, adults and older people with medical and surgical conditions. They also have an important role in promoting good health and lifestyle. Nursing programmes at DkIT are offered in partnership with the HSE (North East), St. John of God North East Services, and other agencies which may be used for clinical placements.
Apply to practice as a Registered General Nurse in Ireland and throughout the UK and EU. Graduates can apply for positions at Staff Nurse grade in the Irish healthcare sector.
A minimum grade of C3 in two Higher Level papers in the Leaving Certificate plus a minimum of 300 points (or equivalent), together with at least a grade D3 in four Ordinary Level papers in the following subjects:
*English or Irish
*Mathematics (not Foundation level)
*A Laboratory Science subject (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Physics and Chemistry (joint), or Ag. Science
*Three other subjects
*Any applicant who does not meet the minimum educational requirements and who is 23 years of age or older on January 1st 2012 may apply as a mature applicant. Written assessment and interview with An Bord Altranais is required to determine suitability.
