Course description

Child Development – Fetac Level 5

This Child Development module is an ideal introductory course for those interested in a career in Early Childhood Care and Education. You may wish to study this module independently or build up towards a major award in Early Childhood Care and Education by completing a further 7 modules. This module focuses on the role of the guardian/parent in a child's development both at home and in an ECCE setting.  It also focuses on the cultural and environmental factors within a child's development

Entry Requirements

Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. There are no previous academic requirements.

Course Structure

This is blended learning course with 6 evening classes (fortnightly)

Access, Transfer and Progression

Learners may choose to study the additional 7 modules to complete the major award in Early Childhood Care and Education

Course Content Modules

1. The concepts and theories underpinning child development and their application in an ECCE setting

2. The role of the parent/guardian/practitioner in the development of the child in the home and in an ECCE setting

3. The holistic development of the child including the diversity, inclusion and equality and the role which you play in this process

4. The role of the family, social, cultural and environmental factors on child development and learning
