Course description

Award: NFQ Level 7, Minor award

The Certificate in Computing for Secure Mobile Applications will give potential and current ICT professionals the fundamental skills and knowledge to develop web and mobile applications. The course content will address the ICT skills shortages in particular by developing learners knowledge and skills in programming mobile and web-based applications at a level that will allow them to become mobile or web app developers.

Course delivery combines traditional distance education with online learning with the option of attending on-campus tutorials. The face to face classroom sessions are supported with recorded lectures to present information. An industry project will ensure a strong focus on the integration of the academically acquired skills with the practical application of those skills with an industrial partner,  providing personalised, flexible and tailored options to diverse learner cohorts; from graduates, apprentices, to upskilling industry professionals and mature students.

This course is suitable for:

  • Individuals in the early stages of a software career or those seeking to transition from another discipline.
  • Experienced professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge or formalise their learning.
  • For students requiring medium-term upskilling for career advancement or for those interested in focused study in this subject area for personal or topical interest.

The principal entry requirement for the course is a Level 7 ordinary degree, at minimum second class honours (NFQ or other internationally recognised equivalent), in a relevant engineering, computing, mathematics, science or technology discipline.

Applicants that do not meet the standard qualification requirement but with significant relevant experience in the computing/technology sector will be considered under the University policy that allows for the recognition of Prior Learning, both formal and informal/experiential learning; non-accredited personal and professional education as well as work based training. Such applicants will be requested to provide a portfolio of their previous relevant work which might suggest that they are capable of successfully completing the course.
