The Introductory Certificate in Bookkeeping, accredited by Bookkeeping Academy of Ireland and Big Red Cloud, is aimed at those who are new to bookkeeping and have little or no previous knowledge or experience. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of double entry bookkeeping and its place in modern business, enter transactions into a bookkeeping system, reconcile their bank statement and produce an initial trial balance. They should also be able to identify and correct basic errors present in the system. An inexperienced bookkeeper can earn a wage between €18,000 to €22,500, with some experience that goes up to €28,000 and with 4 years experience a salary of €50,000 can be commanded.

Pre-requisites

There are no formal entry requirements to the Certificate in Bookkeeping and no prior bookkeeping knowledge is assumed at this level. However, candidates must have basic numerical skills and a good
understanding of the English language.

The Certificate in Bookkeeping is made up of five topics:

Basic Principles of Bookkeeping
Dealing with VAT
Business Documentation and Dealing with Discount
Relevant Contracts Tax
Cash Budgeting
Deductible Expenses and Tax-Free Payments to Employees
Depreciation and Capital Allowances
Assessments

Assessment

Assessment for your certificate comes in two parts:

Multiple Choice Questions for 50% (1 hour)
Case Study on Big Red Cloud for 50% (Completed over the course of a week)
