Beginners Photography Course, 1 day a week for six weeks. Saturdays from 10am to 12 noon.
Back to Basics - You will start by learning about camera settings - Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO, what they actually do, how they affect your photos and how to use them to achieve the best results.These settings may be represented as symbols on your compact digital camera e.g. a mountain, a man running, a moon etc. All of which will be explained.
File Management -You will be shown how to download your images to a computer, save them in separate files; write them to a DVD, USB stick or external hard drive for backup.
Lighting and Composition - When to use flash on a sunny day and how to do night shots without flash and how to avoid red eye and reflections. You will be taught how to compose landscapes, still life, portraits of one or two people to small groups etc;
Projects - Each week you will be given a small project to photograph and the tutor will then critique your photographs the following week. This has proved far more beneficial than just talking about the teachers work.
Retouching - You will be shown some very basic retouching techniques using photo editing software and some basic studio lighting setups.
You should bring your digital camera along to each class, however, the class will include some advice about buying a digital camera so if you don't have one, don't worry.
