DT529 Programme Description Making it in the world of acting and drama is little more than a dream for most. However, for graduates of this Honours BA in Drama (Performance), one of Ireland‚Äôs few remaining fulltime acting programmes, living the dream can become a reality. Graduates are confi dent performers, generous facilitators and effective communicators of aspects of drama and have been successfully treading the boards in theatres in Ireland and abroad in addition to successes on the big screen. The programme is aimed at anybody who is interested in committing themselves to acting. While performance is at the core of the programme, there are also rigorous academic demands on students, including scholarly research and written analyses, in order to strengthen and support the performance and drama facilitation work. Core areas studied throughout the three years are Acting (including Improvisation, Stanislavski and Acting to Camera), Drama and Performance in Cultural Contexts (including Ensemble Production, Irish Drama and Modernism, Renaissance to Romance, Critical Analysis), The Acted Word (including Voice and Speech, Shakespeare and Radio Drama), Drama in Social and Learning Contexts (including Drama Facilitation and Theatre in Education) and Supporting the Body (Movement, Singing, Dance and Combat). Students may avail of Study Abroad opportunities through the student exchange scheme with Columbia College Chicago. Career Opportunities The programme provides graduates with strong prospects both for further study at postgraduate level and for employment in the area of drama. Recent graduates of the programme have gone on to work for a variety of prestigious companies including: the Abbey Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company, London‚Äôs West End, RT?â and TEAM Theatre Company.
