The Theatre Course has established a reputation for providing an exciting and innovative Theatre Training Programme, attracting students from all over the country and beyond.

The course is taught by practising theatre professionals. A unique, purpose built amphitheathre, in the college grounds, provides students with an ideal venue for honing their skills and for gaining practical performance experience throughout the year. In May each year students produce a full scale production which attracts enthusiastic audiences.

AIM
The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive actors training as well as to explore theatre as an expressive form. All students also have the opportunity to develop and explore theatre production skills. The course is designed to encourage expression, to discover their own unique theatre skills and to feel prepared for work in the professional theatre.

ABOUT THE COURSE
The course is taught in a group environment which is supportive and fun. Most of the classes take the form of practical workshops in the Drama studio. Students are also offered individual tutorials.

Over the 2 years students gain experience in the following areas;

*  Shakespearean Performance

THEATRE PERFORMANCE

Regular links are maintained with the professional theatre both through the permanent staff and by weekly master classes
where visiting theatre professionals offer workshops in their areas of expertise such as; Dance, Opera Musicals, Site Specific Theatre, Puppets, Stage Combat, Circus Skills, Alexander Technique and all areas of production.

QUALIFICATIONS.
The course leads to a FETAC Level 5 award in Teathre Performance. To achiece this award a minimum of 8 modules must be completed. The following Level 5 modules are offered over the 2 years.
*  Acting Skills and Techniques (2 modules)
*  Performance Craft
*  Theatre Performance
*  Theatre Studies
*  Sheakespearean Performance
*  Event Production
*  Stage Management and Administration
*  Work Experience
*  Communications

A selection of level 6 modules are offered to interested students in Year 2 subject to discussion with course tutors.

COURSE PRODUCTIONS
Students have performance opportunities throughout the year both of scripted and devised material. In May students present a full scale public production. The production and rehearsal process follows a professional theatre structure.
Each student, lead by a 2nd year production team, takes responsibility for an area of production as well as performing in the play. This equips students with valuable skills for creating their own work once they have completed their studies.
Course productions are designed for the Amphitheatre but have also played in venues in Cork.

Past students have pursued all of the above as well as forming their own Theatre Companies.

FURTHER STUDIES
Students may choose to further their studies to 3rd level. There are many Theatre Courses on offer in Universities and Colleges in Ireland and the UK. Interested students recieve advice and support from course tutors and career guidence staff at the College.
