RADIO PRESENTERS COURSE
Evening Course over 7 weeks in Malahide CS for 5 classroom sessions and two studio sessions in Dublin City FM Studios on Eastwall Road.
WEEK ONE: INTRODUCTION
Introduction to the radio station and the roles of the producer, editor, researcher and technician. Introduction to the role of the presenter – pitch, tone, speed, delivery, comprehension and listening skills.
WEEK TWO: NEWS SCRIPT & VOX POPS
Learning how to prepare a news script – number of words, writing to be heard,
encapsulating difficult concepts in short words, including pre-recorded clips. Voxpops: preparing the topic and the questions. Asking the question in several different ways. Knowing what you are trying to achieve with the package. Topping and tailing.
WEEK THREE: RECORDING IN STUDIO
Participants will be in studio in Dublin City FM recording their news pieces. They will
also record and edit voxpop packages for programmes.
WEEK FOUR: FEEDBACK
Listening to the work recorded in studio the week before. Feedback on presentation,
speed, pitch etc.
WEEK FIVE: PREPARATION FOR INTERVIEW
Discussing the material. Selecting and naming the programme on which the interview would be broadcast. Structuring the questions based on briefing material or additional research. Preparing supplementals. Writing the intro and outro. Checking timing.
WEEK SIX: RECORDING IN STUDIO
Recording the piece ‘as live’. Introducing the person, conducting the interview, closing the piece.
WEEK SEVEN: FEEDBACK
Discussing the previous weeks recordings including:- questions well answered or
needing supplementals and taking too much time (to ask or answer a question). Advice on career progression and radio opportunities.
Note: Demo CDs for each participant, containing their three sample recordings will be forwarded to the college within 3 weeks of the conclusion of the course.
We offer this course on Monday night 7.30 to 9.30pm at a cost of €300.
