This unique course in Practical Sustainability has been in existance since 2001 and has become one of the most successful and popular courses in the country attracting students from all over the world.

The course provides students with a thorough grounding of local and global sustainability issues through the lens of permaculture design principals - an internationally recognised system of design derived from ecological systems thinking.

Through the course, students are equipped with a diverse range of practical skills and work experience specific to the changing dynamic of a world of diminishing energy supplies and the challenge of climate change which position them at the forefront of opportunities for innovation in new techniques appropriate living skills and the burgeoning field of green business.

A mix of classroom study, practical projects, field trips around the area to state-of-the-art sustainability centres, and a range of master-classes from nationally and internationally renowned experts in their field provides a substantive and empowering learning experience.
As the interest in and demand for sustainable design solutions, organic horticulture and farming, and innovative practices in forestry, land management, recycling and renewable energy, increase dramatically into the future, the permaculture course at the Kinsale College of Further Education has never been as relevant.

Graduates from the Permaculture/Practical Sustainability Course have been able to avail of a diverse range of opportunities for employment, business or further study.
There are exciting new opportunities in the fields of environmental protection, ecology, teaching, and horticulture, as well as the growing areas of renewable energy, recycling, sustainable landscape and house design consultancy.

There are a range of courses in related fields available to degree level or beyond to those who wish to gain higher qualifications.
