Course Overview: This three day course will provide the learner with the knowledge, practical skills to give effective life support, diagnose & treat injuries or illness, maintain care and comfort of the casualty and an understanding required to provide and coordinate first aid in the workplace. The new standard, introduced in 2008, includes Cardiac First Response training in automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and administering aspirin for heart attack patients. This course is delivered over three days by certified Occupational First aid Instructors registered with OFAAA. Pre-requirements Training Course for those members of staff who have been nominated as First Aiders for their Department. Course Contents: First Aid in Workplace Patient Assessment Respiratory Emergencies Cardiac First Response Wounds & bleeding Altered levels of consciousness Musculoskeletant injuries Burns and scalds, chemical & electric shock At Course Completion learners will: understand responsibilities of the occupational first aider be familiar with health & safety legislation in relation to first aid in the workplace be able to provide treatment for the purpose of preserving life or minimisingthe consequences of injury until discharge or the arrival of medical assistance be able to provide treatment for an injury which doesn't require the attention of medical practitioner or nurse be capable of coordinating first aid arrangements ih the workplace Participants will complete a theoretical exam and practical skills assessment in the presence of the external examiner. |
