This four-year programme was introduced in the academic year 2002/2003 and leads to the award of Bachelor of Nursing Science (Psychiatric) and registration in the Psychiatric Division of the Nurses Register maintained by An Bord Altranais. The programme is offered in partnership with the Health Service Executive West. Psychiatric nursing aims to assist in the recovery of service users experiencing mental health issues and to promote mental health and well-being. At the heart of psychiatric nursing is the development of therapeutic relationships, engaging with users, carers and their families.
