Course Detail

This two day course is designed for individuals within companies who have become manual handling instructors or risk assessors, to refresh their current knowledge and develop it further. It is necessary further to the HSA’s guidance on the training of manual handling instructors.

At Course Completion: Carry out a basic Manual Handling risk assessment/ergonomic assessment in the workplace Instruct others in the theory and techniques of safe manual Handling Apply new information with respect to Manual Handling training, to further enhance knowledge, presentation and practical demonstration skills.

Course Contents: The course incorporates new modules on instructional skills and manual handling risk assessment. The risk assessment module will facilitate instructors to carry out a basic manual handling risk assessment in the workplace, as required by the manual handling regulations.

Day 1: Intro - Legislation, Regulations, Anatomy & Physiology The legislative framework Implications & application of the legislation in the workplace Instructional skills Teaching Strategies Anatomy & Work physiology Fitness & flexibility Principles of lifting & moving techniques Workplace organisation to avoid obstructions to safe handling Identifying the main risks associated with Manual Handling operations

Day 2: Instructional Skills Assessment, Demonstration of a Manual Handling training session, Practical application of principles of lifting, Lifting from the floor, table, low to high, Pushing and Pulling, Theory & application of Manual Handling, Risk Assessment, Workplace ergonomics, Manual Handling risk assessment process, Checklist for Manual Handling risk assessment, Practical Involvement, Presentations, Assessments, Assessment of instructional skills, Written examination, Practical Assessment, Feedback, Summary & Conclusion
