Philosophy is for you if you are interested in thinking for yourself and tackling some of the most difficult and fundamental questions of our existence. Does the world exist independently of our minds and, if so, how can we know it? Do we have free will? What is consciousness? How should we live? Does God exist?
Studying Philosophy will help you to think clearly about such questions. You will engage critically, systematically and constructively with the rich heritage of philosophical ideas and arguments from Plato to Wittgenstein and beyond, and develop your own lines of thought.
Philosophy at university does not presuppose any particular school subjects. The emphasis from the outset is on analysing and understanding for yourself. It requires only a capacity for clear thinking and methodical argument. |
