The aim of the programme is to prepare suitable students for entry to one of the DIT Bachelor of Engineering honours degree programmes. The general target group is students who have the desire and the capacity to become professional engineers but do not have the honours Mathematics requirement at Leaving Certificate level and do not have relevant engineering related subjects such as Physics, Applied Mathematics etc. Particular target groups are Leaving Certificate students who get an A or B grade in Ordinary Level Mathematics and girls who have an interest in Engineering but may not have been able to pursue the relevant subjects – particularly Honours Mathematics.
Objectives on successful completion of the programme are:
Students will have the mathematical and scientific basis to successfully embark on a Bachelor of Engineering honours degree programme.
Students will have been introduced to a variety of engineering processes across a range of disciplines and be able to operate equipment and machinery, carry out basic experiments and complete fundamental assembly and test procedures.
Students will have developed their communications and computer skills so as to effectively retrieve information, write reports and make presentations.
Entry is also open to mature students, international students and non-standard applicants through the regular CAO and DIT procedures.
Successful applicants will be required to pay a tuition fee of approximately €3,000. The free fees scheme does not apply to this programme. |
