Question Title Incredible Years Parenting Course

Positive Behaviour Ireland, a not for profit organisation working to reduce challenging behaviour in children, is starting its next Incredible Years parenting course in central Dublin on Tuesday evenings from the 9th of February.

The Incredible Years parenting programme has been developed by Dr. Carolyn Webster-Stratton over thirty years, using scientific research involving over 3000 parents to develop courses which enable parents to reduce inappropriate behaviour in their children and increase their children’s social and emotional skills. Positive Behaviour Ireland has adopted the Incredible Years Programme as its parenting programme, giving parents valuable information about child development and influencing children’s behaviour and demonstrating effective parenting techniques.

Parents who have taken part in the Incredible Years say: “Really enjoyed every minute. Learnt so much.” , “I have seen the benefits to my children and whole family.” and “Some life-long lessons learned.”

The first parts of the course focuses on developing and enhancing the relationship between parent and child. The second half of the course builds on this relationship and focuses on parents developing skills to set limits for their children and to react effectively when their children are not behaving appropriately. Many parents tell us that their children’s behaviour improves and the need for discipline decreases from surprisingly early on in the twelve week course.

The Incredible Years works with parents to help them to gain confidence in themselves as parents. It highlights the areas in which they are relating well with their children and demonstrates skills which parents can use to relate even better to their children. This is why Positive Behaviour Ireland describes The Incredible Years as being a “transformational” parenting course. The Incredible years programme transforms individual parents, relationships between parents, individual children’s behaviour, sibling behaviour and family life in general.
