fetac results usable for next year?

I recently completed my fetac course with 9 distinctions but missed out on applying for nursing. Is it possible to use the FETAC 2013 cert to apply for Nursing to the CAO next year?

Yes you can. Once you have the results that you need you can apply again next year. You could (I think) also look into a BTEC or Fetac level 6 so you are progressing..

I had 7 distinctions and 2 merits this year but didn't get any offer for nursing - I thought I had fulfilled the criteria to get through. The new points scoring system is very confusing!

In many cases there are very few places available to FETAC applicants across all courses where you are competing against other FETAC graduates. There are over 30,000 students in the further education sector so you are not just competing against students in your own college and in the case of nursing, there are very few places reserved for FETAC applicants.

The requirements listed by the colleges are only a base. It does not mean that by meeting these you will get a place on the course. In most cases you will need to get higher results than these requirements. Using the FETAC system to get a place on a course is just like using your Leaving Cert points, demand from students for places on a course v the amount of places available will determine the points for the course and whether random selection comes into play.

As for the new points system, it does seem to be causing some confusion, I have attached a sample below which will hopefully help you understand it better..
