Question Title Record Levels reached as Recession drives a late rush of College Applications
Over 75,000 people have applied for college places in September.

According to provisional CAO figures, about 5,961 late applications were made up to May 1, a 50pc increase on the same period in 2008, and double the more typical figure of around 3,000.

The annual deadline of Feb 1st also saw a 6pc rise on last year with applications reaching a record breaking 67,634.

The demand for college places surges to record levels as jobs market tightens.
