A NEW course in money management and budgeting aims to help people
save money while protecting their homes and paying off creditors.
Aimed at people who deal with everyday household budgets and those
who would like more control of (and return for) their weekly wage,
Budgeting and Basic Money Management is an intensive 5-week course and
will be run from Fermoy Education Centre, starting Monday September 6.
Ballylanders woman, Patricia O’Donnell, has been giving financial
planning advice to people in the Avondhu region for many years and is a
respected household name when it comes to giving sound advice. Her work
as a Qualified Financial Advisor (QFA) in recent years has led her to
see a need for further education on the smart use of money.
“I meet people everyday who are crying out for tips and hints on how
they can save money and get their wages working more effectively. It’s
been a very difficult period for everyone, employed or not, and it’s
essential to make sure we are using every resource we have to keep
ourselves going in these difficult economically challenged times.
“My experience over the many decades has led me to understand that
while the years on the calendar and fashion may change, people are
fundamentally the same and their needs are too. When it comes to money,
people generally just want to be able to pay the bills, feed and dress
themselves and enjoy their life. Money plays a big factor in that. The
aim of this course is to put power back into people’s hands and give
them skills that will make them effective savers and budgeters so
enjoying life can be high on their ‘to-do’ lists.”
Delivering this course will see Patricia come full circle in her
career which originally started out as a primary school teacher, which
she carried out for sixteen years, while rearing her family. Patricia
returned to education in 1998 completing a Diploma in Credit Union
studies in UCC and graduating as Qualified Financial Advisor at UCD in
2009.
The course will address issues such as budgeting, getting value for
money, tax relief opportunities, understanding your entitlements,
dealing with creditors, using technology to manage money and planning
for the future to mention but a few. The course is limited to 15 people
and costs €50 for the five nights running from September 6-October 4,
2010. The closing date for entrants is August 30, 2010. The course will
also be available on podcast for participants who cannot attend. Further
