New employment opportunities in Irish have been generated with the
enactment of the Official Languages Act, 2003, and since Irish became an
official and working language of the European Union in 2007.
Brenda Ní Ghairbhí, Development and Office Executive with Conradh na
Gaeilge says: “Not only do European institutes and public sector bodies
in Ireland have Irish-language responsibilities, but international
private businesses such as Microsoft, Samsung, Accenture and even
Facebook are looking to the Irish language to give them a competitive
advantage in Ireland, and Conradh na Gaeilge’s intensive courses give
people a chance to practise and improve their Irish to undertake this
work.”
Conradh na Gaeilge’s intensive Irish courses will focus on four
levels to cater for all learners, from complete beginners to fluent
speakers, and there will be three different courses running in June,
July and August:
15 June - 01 July 2010
06 July - 22 July 2010
03 August - 19 August 2010
Three-hour classes will be held two nights a week (Tuesdays and
Thursdays) from 6.30 - 9.30pm. There are four levels to choose from for
each course: Complete Beginners 1; Bunrang 1; Meánrang 1; and Ardrang 1.
Each course costs €180 but Conradh na Gaeilge offers a discounted
price of €160 to former pupils, students, OAPs and the unemployed. You

Conradh na Gaeilge courses comply with Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge
syllabi and students will have the opportunity to take exams, run by NUI
Maynooth, to gain an internationally-recognised European qualification
in Irish based on class material and complimented by Irish-language
events run throughout the term.
