Cooks Academy and Des King have created the Dublin Wine Academy in
order to offer high quality wine education and to provide WSET
accredited wine & spirit courses in the Dublin area. CooksAcademy
is Dublin’s Premier Cookery School and the second largest in Ireland.
The school boasts a larger and more diverse range of cookery lessons
than any other in Ireland.
‘Unfortunately the Wine Board of
Ireland decided to close their doors but we felt there was still a high
demand for wine appreciation courses and the need to supply the full
range of wine courses from Basic through to Intermediate and Advanced
Certificate courses’ said Des King
‘The WSET certificates are
essential for the Irish Wine Industry to maintain their high standards
by having adequately trained staff, especially in retail, marketing,
service and buying roles.’
Dublin Wine Academy courses begin in
the first week of Janurary 2010 and run all year round. Customers can
book online at www.dublinwineacademy.com or by phoning 01 214 5002.
Cooks
Academy was founded in early 2005 by Vanessa and Tim Greenwood who saw
the need for a purpose built cookery school in Dublin. Since then the
school has risen from strength to strength, employing 7 people full
time, four part time and a number of freelance staff. The school has
been running private wine lectures for a number of years and since
culinary and wine education go hand in hand, it makes perfect sense to
combine the two to become Dublin’s only real School of Food & Wine.
Based
in the pretty seaside town of Dun Laoghaire, in an impressive seafront
Victorian building, the school is well served by public transport to
include commuter trains and buses and is within 20 minutes drive of the
city centre. The train station is 100 metres from the school and trains
to the city centre run every 15 minutes.
Des King is a WSET
Diploma alumni and a former lecturer with the Wine Board of Ireland. He
has taught wine courses for over 6 years and taught the Intermediate
Certificate for the last 3 years. He has had a very successful career
in Marketing and Sales Management in the wine industry: he is currently
Brand Manager for Gleeson Wines and was the proprietor of King Wine
Merchants. Des is also one of the first Irish wine educators to become
an Accredited Burgundy Educator by the Burgundy Wine Board (BIVB) and
the Burgundy Wine School (L’Ecole des Vins) as part of an accreditation
programme first launched in 2008 |
