The aim of the Diploma in Finance is to extend and deepen the understanding gained at the Certificate in Finance level. This will involve a more in-depth treatment of the key topic areas in finance and their applicability in practice.
A significant element within the Diploma is it's focus upon the decision making process and the reporting of performance. To this end, the course concludes with a case study based module incorporating all elements of the programme by dealing with finance in a 'real' organisational context.
The Diploma is designed for those who have successfully completed the Certificate in Finance.
This programme will be delivered over one academic year. Delivery is via a direct learning programme for each module, supported by tutorials, which will guide each student through the course. The learning programme will incorporate a schedule of study, recommended readings, and activities to be undertaken in preparation for seminars. A recommended text book will be provided for each module.
Tutorials for each module of both the diploma programme will be interactive. The approach used will include short theoretical inputs, guided group discussion, reflection and practical exercises. Case study and role-play will also be utilised at the Diploma level to ensure that students have the opportunity to test their knowledge through practical application in a simulated working environment built on real-life scenarios.
Tutorials will take place at the Institute of Public Administration in Dublin. Classes typically run from 9:30 to 5:00 on tutorial dates.

The programme consists of five modules:
- Taxation
- Accounting for Decisions
- Reporting Financial Results
- Accountability and Risk
- Public Sector Performance Reporting
The IPA is a recognised college of University College Dublin (UCD). From 2011, any student entering an accredited IPA Programme will graduate with a UCD award. The IPA and UCD are part of the wider National University of Ireland (NUI) network. The Diploma in Finance is at Level 6 (Special Purpose Award) on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
Successful students of the Diploma in Finance can progress to year three of the Institute's Bachelor of Business Studies programme should they wish to continue their studies.
Each module of the Diploma in Finance will be assessed via an assignment (30%) and a two hour examination (70%).
The fee is €2500 per person. Fee includes course materials, matriculation, tuition and tutorial attendance, assessment and examinations. Lunch will be provided at tutorials.
